Hybrid/ge is a hybrid bridge. It is an assembly of connections. Bridges connect two points but for how long? The demand from a public civic client for an ‘iconic’ architecture is a titanic struggle between architecture as marketing (cost) and an architecture of sales (income). The brief might be an iconic bridge for Amsterdam but this relegates the primary purpose of a bridge – to connect – for a greater demand – that of attraction.
